Focal Point Gallery

Focal Point Gallery worked on a unique project called "Through the Lens" in which South Essex Homes residents had the opportunity to share their perspective on life by capturing the moments that make everyday life extraordinary.

This project was self-led, allowing participants to pick up the camera whenever creativity strikes. A checklist was provided to inspire the photographs taken, encouraging residents to capture the world in surprising ways.

The goal of this project was to challenge traditional ideas about Sheltered Housing and Temporary accommodation and to showcase life in a different light. After residents returned the cameras to Focal Point Gallery, the photos were developed and displayed as part of the "S for Southend 2025" exhibition in the gallery in January 2025.
