OpenView IPGUARD Door Entry System
A Smarter, Safer Way to Manage Access
South Essex Homes is upgrading door entry systems across its high-rise buildings as part of a two-year modernisation programme designed to enhance resident safety, accessibility and convenience. Following a successful pilot at Yantlet in Leigh, installations took place at Barringtons in January 2026, with further upgrades scheduled for the Queensway blocks - Quantock, Pennine, Malvern and Chiltern - and then across all remaining high-rise properties.
What Is the OpenView IPGUARD System?
OpenView IPGUARD is a modern, smart video entry solution that replaces traditional fixed handsets. Instead of relying on a device mounted inside the home, residents can use their own mobile phone, tablet or landline to manage visitor access - from anywhere.
Residents can register up to three contact numbers, and the system will automatically call them in sequence until answered, ensuring greater flexibility and peace of mind.
Key Benefits
- Improved Security
- Visual verification: Residents can see who is at the entrance before allowing access.
- Secure activity logging: Every door opening is recorded, helping South Essex Homes monitor and address misuse.
- Remote access control: Trusted visitors can be granted entry even when the resident is not at home, reducing risks linked to shared or misplaced keys.
- Enhanced Accessibility: The IPGUARD system is fully compliant with the Equality Act, making it suitable for elderly residents and those with disabilities. Because access can be managed from personal devices, there's no need to reach a wall-mounted handset quickly.
- Convenience Built In: Residents gain complete control of their building entry, with the ability to respond to calls from wherever they are-whether nearby, out for the day, or away from home.
What Residents Can Expect
Every resident will be contacted in advance before work begins in their building. South Essex Homes aims to ensure a smooth transition as the new system is rolled out, providing clearer communication, improved safety and a more convenient way to manage access.
