Sustainability

South Essex Homes is committed to reducing their carbon footprint and by working with our contractors to deliver sustainability in their products and services. One of the ways we are doing this is by looking how SEH and contractors can upcycle materials that would normally go to landfill.

Houghton Building are currently working on our Balmoral estate and deliveries of supplies come to the site on pallets. SEH are now delivering the pallets to two new community groups, who have also started to reuse empty water tanks donated by Houghton Building...

Wellbeing Repair Shed - Garon Park

link to the shed The Repair Shed is a place for people of all ages to visit and interact with similar minded people especially in today’s busy and hectic society. It encourages people to come and share skills and hopefully learn new ones, whilst doing that, they have the opport to talk about life’s ups and downs.

They have a well-equipped workshop where they turn the pallets into benches, garden fences, bird boxes, wooden toys, candle holders and even Christmas trees! Visit their website here: Garon Park Shed or see below for some pictures of what they have made so far...

Ian, the project manager at the Repair Shed was very grateful for the pallets and thanked SEH for delivering them as they do not have transport.

Mendip Community Action Group with ATF

SEH staff and ATF are working together to bring the community garden back to life again!

water tanksWe are working with residents to help with the design of a picnic area. We will use the pallets to make planters for vegetables and flowers. This will give residents fresh vegetables which they can pick and eat as they grow throughout the year. The old water tanks donated will also be great use for keen gardeners.

The larger pallets will be used to build benches, for seating areas and pergola for cool space. We are also hoping to build a small shed where residents can make tea and coffee and enjoy light refreshments.

Community gardens encourage residents to get together, help with keeping us physically active and establish stronger ties to where we live. SEH are committed to working with residents to create and share in the maintenance and products of the community. Community garden logo
