What does our Housing Community Safety Team do?

When you call us up to report anti-social behaviour (ASB), the Contact Centre receiving calls will complete a Risk Assessment to determine the correct response. After this, Tenancy Assistants and Officers will engage with residents and will formulate the response for resolution.

When an immediate response or legal action for ASB is required, Tenancy Services will refer to colleagues within the Housing Community Safety Team (HCST).  A lot of the work in this team takes place behind closed doors and in the courtroom, so you may not be aware of just how much they can get done in a year!

In the past 12 months HCST members have taken the following actions:

  • FIVE Injunctions obtained for reasons such as, fire, nuisance, abuse, threatening behaviour, visitors to property.

  • TWO Injunctions pending for reasons such as noise.

  • ONE Partial Closure Order obtained for abusive and drug related activity, with a possession hearing pending.

  • ONE Full Closure Order obtained, relating to a serious police incident and possession obtained.

  • FOUR Possession hearings awaiting court dates.

  • TEN cases awaiting outcome of criminal conviction. To obtain an Absolute Possession Order, the conviction needs to be a serious criminal offence such as drugs related, sexual assault, or arson.

  • ELEVEN Possession Orders obtained. A 5-year suspended possession order was obtained against a tenant whose behaviour affected their neighbours. No complaints were received once a court hearing date was obtained.

  • SIX cases have action suspended as they are complying with interventions and support previously offered but refused.

If you are struggling with anti-social behaviour from one of your neighbours, you can visit our website and report this using our ‘Report ASB’ form here: Anti-Social Behaviour | South Essex Homes or you can call our Contact Centre on 0800 833 160.
