Your Lifts: Maintenance and Reporting Issues

We rely on residents to make sure the lifts are being used correctly, as misuse can result in increased issues and can put a lift straight back out of service even if it has just been repaired. This webpage explains some of the most common issues we see: Lifts | South Essex Homes

If a lift where you live is not working then please call us on 0800 833 160 to report this as soon as you notice. We will then aim to send an engineer out within two hours of receiving this report and, if possible, the engineer will complete the repairs straight away. If components need to be ordered, they will return urgently once received. In the interim we will always try to provide assistance for vulnerable residents.

Your Bin Collection Days

Find out your collection days by using Southend Council's new Waste App: Resident recycling and waste bin app - Southend-on-Sea City Council

If you cannot access the app you can call their customer services team on 01702 215006 for this information.

In 2025 we had a fire in the bin room of one of our high rise blocks, which may have been caused by a lit cigarette or other flammable item such as lithium batteries being disposed of down the bin chute.

Please be extremely careful when disposing of household waste. Items that could cause a fire such as cigarettes, matches, batteries, especially lithium-ion batteries, must not be put with household waste and never down bin chutes.

An example of how you could help us...

The Resident Engagement Team recently reached out to our Resident Advisory Panel (RAP) to gather their thoughts on the training opportunities provided by South Essex Homes for residents. We received an excellent response, with numerous valuable suggestions, including topics such as IT training, First Aid, learning English, Fire Safety, Recycling, and Health and Nutrition.

In response to this, we have sourced a variety of free online courses for our residents, covering many of these areas. These courses are now accessible through the South Essex Homes webpage: Resident Training | South Essex Homes

Thank you to those that took part in this survey and helped us make these updates!
