Smart Access Upgrade for Southend High-Rises
South Essex Homes has begun rolling out a major upgrade to the door entry systems in the high-rise buildings we manage across Southend. This follows a successful pilot at Yantlet in Leigh and marks the start of a two-year programme to modernise access and improve security for thousands of residents.
The first installation has taken place at Barringtons this week, with work now scheduled for the Queensway blocks - Quantock, Pennine, Malvern and Chiltern - over the coming months. After that, the new system will be introduced across all other high-rise buildings we manage.
What's Changing?
The new system, called OpenView IPGUARD, is a smart video entry solution designed for convenience, flexibility and security. Instead of relying on a fixed handset inside your home, IPGUARD allows you to see and speak to visitors at the main entrance using your own devices - mobile phone, tablet or even a landline - wherever you are. You can register up to three contact numbers, and the system will call them in sequence until someone answers.
How Does It Make Buildings Safer?
- Visual Verification: You can see who is at the door before granting access.
- Secure Logging: Every door opening is recorded, so South Essex Homes can quickly identify misuse.
- Remote Access: You can let in trusted visitors even when you're away, reducing the risk of keys being handed out or doors being propped open.
- Equality Act Compliant: The system is designed to be accessible for elderly and disabled residents, removing the need to rush to a fixed point.
Reassurance
Please don't worry about missing out - every resident will be contacted directly before work starts in their building. Our goal is to make this transition smooth and stress-free, while giving you greater control and peace of mind.
Kevin Hazlewood, Director of Property at South Essex Homes, said:
This upgrade is all about improving safety and convenience for our residents. With IPGUARD, you can see who's at the door and control access from wherever you are. It's a big step forward in making our homes more secure.
