Community Groups

We are lucky enough to work with lots of different groups here in Southend.  Here is an introduction to some of them...

Southend Tenants & Residents Federation

South Essex Homes has close links with the Southend Tenants & Residents Federation (STRF).

STRF was set up to support South Essex Homes when it first formed in 2005.

Membership of the STRF is automatic to all Southend City Council/South Essex Homes tenants, residents, leaseholders and any other authorised person residing within a tenant, resident or leaseholder’s property.

The aims and objectives of STRF are to discuss general matters and city wide issues, make informal judgements and appropriate recommendations, identify solutions to help improve the external and internal image of STRF, develop local pride amongst the residents and to make improvements to local services, which affect the quality of housing in their area and the local community.  They also promote various activities, both recreational and educational, that will enhance the lives of residents and further develop community spirit and to encourage decisions reflecting the needs of the local community.

They also monitor Focus Groups dealing with maintenance, improvements and developments to Council properties within the City of Southend on Sea.  They represent the Tenants and Resident’s Associations and partnerships in the borough and also advise and support, where able, all tenants and leaseholders of Southend on Sea City Council/South Essex Homes.

Want to find out more?

The STRF website has recently re-launched and so you can visit their website or the STRF Facebook page for more information on the work they do and upcoming events, meetings and activities.

Focus Groups

South Essex Homes holds 'Focus Groups' with residents, to ensure that residents are involved in the work that we do.

The Focus Group meetings, which are held in different frequencies according to the need, give tenants the opportunity to have a say in service delivery and voice their opinion in an environment which ensures that the right people receive feedback from tenants and can adjust plans accordingly.

Due to the pandemic we have not been able to meet with our residents face to face as the safety, health and wellbeing of our residents and staff is paramount.  This situation has however given us the opportunity to meet with some residents online and the feedback has been very positive.  We will be looking at combining face to face and online meetings, giving greater access to our residents in helping us shape our services.

At present, Focus Groups exist for the following service areas:

  • Anti-Social Behaviour
  • Disability & Carers
  • Estate Services
  • Income Management
  • Leaseholders
  • Planned Maintenance
  • Repairs, Voids & Servicing
  • Resident Involvement, Audit and Customer Services
  • Sheltered Housing

If you have an interest in any of these subject areas and would like to find out more, please contact the Support Services Team via email to or by calling 01702 212650.

Resident Scrutiny Forum

Who are they?

The Resident Scrutiny Forum (RSF) is an independent group of Southend residents who scrutinise the services that South Essex Homes provides on behalf of the Council.

The RSF was formed in 2012 and was originally made up of six residents who were interviewed to ensure the candidates who were selected had the right kind of skills to scrutinise South Essex Homes’ performance and services.

On an ongoing basis the group are looking at how satisfied residents are with their housing services overall and whether South Essex Homes is meeting its targets.

Sound interesting?

The RSF have at this time just five members so are looking to recruit a new member to join them.

If you are a South Essex Homes resident or leaseholder and feel that you can work alongside others, are like minded and dedicated and you have some free time to spare then please contact them using the contact details below.

What areas need attention?

Do you feel there are services that South Essex Homes provides for you that could benefit from being reviewed, analysed or just looking at - to make sure those services are being delivered in the best way possible for both residents and staff?

If there are any departments or service areas you would like the RSF to look at you can, with confidence of confidentiality, contact any member of the RSF group using their details below.
